Who are RCV Volunteers?

bikeRCV Volunteers are individuals who have chosen to give willingly of their time to work with the charity to support people with a physical disability (RCV Members).  RCV's volunteers may work in partnership with a person with a physical disability, or may decide to take on a more strategic role as a trustee (see 'Get involved - trustee) within one of our branches.

Volunteering  can be such a rewarding experience.  RCV currently works with over 500 volunteers across 7 counties of England.  Many volunteers have been working with the organisation for years, whilst others are new and are beginning to realise just how wonderful it is to make a positive difference to someone's life.

If you are new to the idea of volunteering, it can often seem quite daunting, but don't worry.  We aren't looking for superheroes or superstars!  We're looking for every day folk who might have a few free hours each week to share an interest with someone else. That hobby you've had for years might be just the thing that someone else is looking for!

RCV asks that volunteers be able to commit a few hours a week for a period of time.  These hours will be agreed between you and the RCV Member, meaning that the partnership can work at a time that suits you both.  Asking volunteers to commit for a period of time means that the RCV Member has the opportunity to build their skills, knowledge and confidence, and can build a successful relationship with their volunteer.  Relationships are important, and are the cornerstone of success.

We do have some paperwork that we ask volunteers to complete.  This is so we can find out more about you and your interests, and to ensure we have your consent to store the information you provide us with.  Due to the nature of our work, all volunteers and staff are required to undertake an Enhanced Check with the Criminal Records Bureau, and we will happily talk you through this process if you are at all unsure about it.

Volunteers are well supported by RCV Co-ordinators, whose job it is to develop successful partnerships.  An assessment of your skills and experience will enable us to establish a successful partnership.  It is our job to make sure that you're armed with the information and knowledge you need to make this partnership a success.

If you have read this, and might be interested, please call us.  RCV works with adults with a physical disability and adds colour to life.  You never know... volunteering might actually add some unexpected colour to yours too!!
