Supporting Us

Imagine meeting up with your friends for dinner after work, only to find that you can’t get your wheelchair through the doors of the restaurant. Imagine going into your local for a pint and everyone staring at you, because you’re on your own.  Imagine relying on someone else to take you to appointments, buy your groceries and cook your dinner.

Being able to do what you want to, when you want to, is really one of life’s simple pleasures, and one that most of us take for granted.  How easy do you think it would be to develop a network of friends if you don’t work... because you can’t; don’t play sport ...because you can’t; and don’t see people outside of home... because you can’t?

You can get involved in any number of ways. RCV enables people to pursue an interest of their choice and the opportunities for you are equally as varied!

PAYROLL GIVING

Payroll Giving (Give as You Earn) allows staff to make regular donations to RCV directly from their salary and before tax.  By making consistently regular payments, RCV can make much needed plans for the future which will allow us to reach more people with a physical disability in the UK.

For businesses, it:

  • improves your social responsibility profile
  • enhances community involvement
  • improves staff recruitment and retention

Payroll giving is an easy and tax effective way for you and your colleagues to give regularly to charity.  Donations are taken before tax, meaning that for every £1 donated it will only cost 80p (60p for higher rate tax payers) - the taxman pays the rest!

UK charities raise over £100 million yearly through payroll giving and over 10,000 UK employers have committed to payroll giving.

Setting up a payroll giving scheme in your organisation is straightforward and free of charge.  You simply need to sign up with an approved Payroll Giving Agency who will process your employees’ donations and distribute the money to RCV.  Contact us for more information.

Dragon Boat Race

On Sunday 23 May, Team Jaguar and Team Leamington took part in a Dragon Boat Race on belhalf of Ryder-Cheshire Volunteers in Myton Park in Warwick.

It was a fun filled day for all 13 teams who participated in the beautiful sunshine!

After three one on one heats (each one getting more and more competitive!) it came down to three boats in the final race, one of which was Team Jaguar.  The team, coming from Jaguar Land Rover, raced across the finish taking 2nd place!

Raising over £6,000 between the two teams, they helped to make Ryder-Cheshire Volunteers the most supported charity of the day!  Ian Luckett, Training Development Manager congratulated his team, "Firstly congratulations to everybody yesterday for their efforts both with the event itself and in the general organisation.  Needless to say we have one big winner on the day which is the Ryder-Cheshire Volunteer charity and if all money comes in it looks like we will have raised close to £4000 in the end.  Additionally we also remember we had a great day ourselves and again proved that JLR is a
great team and how we once again proved how much we can all pull together. "

Thanks to everyone involved with the event; our sponsors, our participants and Funraisers for organizing such a fun and important day!

Set yourself a challenge and add colour to life in 2010

Set yourself a challenge and be part of our team who raise money for RCV!   Your support will help us continue to add colour to the lives of people with a physical disability.  There are so many ways you can get involved with us. We've lots of activities you can take part in, like bike rides, runs and walks, overseas events or, why not try a parachute jump!

So go on, there’s something for everyone; yourself, a family member, a friend or colleague – get inspired and choose a fun and rewarding activity that really makes a difference!

Overseas Challenges

There are many great opportunities for an exhilarating challenge of a lifetime.  Treks include climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and hiking across the rain forests of Costa Rica as well as the Sahara, Peru, China and Iceland!  Visit the destination of your dreams while helping people at the same time.

We will help you from the start of your training through to the big event.  Our dedicated team are always there on the other end of the phone.

Parachute Jumps

Imagine standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10,000 feet - the noise of the engines and the wind ringing in your ears with only the outline of distant fields below. Now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and letting go - falling forward into the clouds, diving down through the air as you start freefalling at over 120mph! Then imagine the peace and quiet as the canopy opens, the steering toggles come down either side of you and you begin a tranquil parachute descent from a mile up in the air, steering yourself back down to the centre of the drop zone below. Well you can stop imagining because it's real and you can do it at an airfield near you by reserving a place to skydive for RCV!

HINTS AND TIPS

  • Decide on a date and venue

Think about where you would like to hold your fundraising event.  Will it be at home, at the office, the local pub or town hall?  What time of year would be best for the event that you are planning?  Make sure to check the calendar for important dates that might clash!

  • Work on a budget and set a target

Set yourself a fundraising target and make sure that it is worthwhile compared to what you will need to spend.  Make sure that you stick to your budget.

Contact your local businesses, pubs and restaurants to donate items, prizes and to advertise the event.

  • Stay organised

Write a checklist of all the things that you will need and a schedule of events so you can tick them off as you go along.

Working with friends can be rewarding so set up a fundraising team, remember everyone has different skills that can contribute to the event.

  • Advertise and Promote

Word of mouth is the most successful way of promoting an event so tell everyone you know!  Put up posters in your area, contact local radio stations and newspapers to get the word out.  Maybe there is a local celebrity that would like to come along to your event!

  • Invite your guests

The more guests you have the more money you can raise, so email, phone and send out the details to your friends, family and colleagues!

  • Maximize your donations

Ask your supporters to complete a Gift Aid form for all donations.  This allows us to claim an extra 28% on every pound raised at no extra cost to you or the donor.

Why not set up your own fundraising page to make it easier for people to give!

  • Remember your supporters

Keep a record of your guestlist and everyone who supported your event.  This will make it simple to thank everyone for helping to raise money for RCV.

  • HAVE FUN!

Enjoy yourself and those around you will too!  As well as having a fun day, you will be helping to put colour into lives of others which is enough to make anyone smile!

Corporate Support

A partnership of a different kind!

Charity of the Year

As a national charity with a regional profile, RCV is looking to double in size in the next three years.  We aren’t doing this to build an empire.  We simply want to reach more people with a physical disability and colour lives.  By becoming RCV’s Charity of the Year, your staff team will be actively contributing to

  • a community that values diversity and difference
  • the development of projects that work directly with people
  • the growth of a charity that aspires to fill a much needed gap in people’s lives

RCV will support your organisation to develop a fundraising package to suit your needs and will appoint a fundraiser to manage the partnership.  This will include maximising media opportunities and handling as little or as much of your administration in relation to fundraising, which will free up your business.

Corporate donations and Sponsorship

Donations and sponsorship are an opportunity to promote your brand whilst supporting our activities.  When you give to RCV, your business will get tax relief.  Donating is simple and secure using our online form. RCV organises a variety of events throughout the year, so whether your company has a sponsorship budget of £500 or £100,000 we have an event to suit you.  Whatever you choose, we will use it as an opportunity to raise both your profile and ours!

Staff Fundraising

If becoming our Charity of the Year isn’t for you, maybe staff fundraising is.  Fundraising for charity is a great way to build team skills and positions your company as a socially responsible and forward thinking place to work.   RCV has a lot of great ideas for a one-off or succession of events, which range from holding a dress down day to trekking the globe or even a parachute jump!
